An estimated 231,461 people are living with, or in remission from, leukemia. Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20. However, most leukemia cases occur in older adults; more than half of all cases occur after age 67. The overall five-year survival rate has tripled in the last 40 years.
